Alice Nishimwe, 17, blow-dries a client's hair at a salon in Hagadera market. On this day, she skipped afternoon lessons at school to find clients at the salon. During her free time and school holidays, Nishimwe works at the salon to earn extra money for school needs and her family's expenses. On challenging days, when her family has no meals, she misses school to work at the salon. She typically braids clients' hair for 400 KES (3 USD). "I dream of a better life in Australia. I hope that the UNHCR will help us move there because we have suffered so much, and I hope to change my family's life one day," Nishimwe said.
